How to Create the Cat Eye Effect
For a magnetic Cat Eye finish, Yoshi recommends:
- Apply your chosen colour and cure it.
- Mix a small amount of Cat Eye Powder with No Wipe Top.
- Apply a thin, even layer of the mixture.
- Hold a Cat Eye magnet over the uncured product and move the magnetic particles into your chosen pattern.
- Cure for 60 seconds.
Because the powder has already been mixed with No Wipe Top, Yoshi states that an additional top layer is not required after this application method.
How to Create the Holo Effect
The same powder can also create a completely different finish.
Apply and cure your chosen colour, then rub the powder directly into the sticky dispersion layer of the cured colour using an applicator, sponge or finger.
Continue rubbing until the surface becomes smooth and metallic, then seal with top coat and cure for 60 seconds.
Yoshi specifically advises not to rub the powder directly into a base coat, as its sticky layer may make an even finish more difficult to achieve.
Magnetic Nail Art That Changes with the Light
When used as a Cat Eye effect, the magnetic particles can be moved before curing to change the shape and position of the reflection.
Create a concentrated line, diffused glow or more dimensional magnetic pattern depending on how the magnet is positioned.
With the Holo method, the finish instead becomes smooth and metallic with holographic reflections that shift as the light and viewing angle change.
Use Over Different Gel Polish Colours
The colour underneath plays an important part in the final result.
Apply Yoshi Cat Eye Powder over light, dark or coloured gel polish to create different levels of contrast and reflection.
